Public consultation commences on Council's 2019-20 Annual Business Plan and Budget

Kimba residents are being asked to take five minutes to have their say on the direction of their community over the coming 12 months with the release of the District Council of Kimba Draft 2019-20 Annual Business Plan and Budget ("the plan") for public comment on 9 May.

The plan aims to maintain efficient and desired services and facilities for the community, without imposing an unrealistic rate burden on ratepayers. The provision of services by Council is a reflection of both meeting Council’s obligations under legislation, and making policy choices on behalf of the community to achieve Council’s longer-term goals. Council also has taken account of the current economic and seasonal conditions with the creation of the plan.

Mayor Dean Johnson said that Council was budgeting for an operating deficit of $84,000 for the 2019-20 financial year,  the majority of which could be attributed to one-off projects aimed at improving operational efficiencies and delivering Kimba a permanent solution to its ongoing medical services crisis.

"I encourage each and every member of our community to inspect the plan and find out what we have planned for the coming financial year, and how available resources will be utilised for the continued delivery of services, programs and projects that make Kimba a place people want to live, work and play," he explained.

"We have developed a quick survey designed to gauge community sentiment on the performance of Council during the current financial year that will help guide us in how we support the development of our fantastic little town."

The survey can be accessed here until the public consultation period concludes at the end of the month.

Council is inviting stakeholders to attend the following information sessions and public meeting to provide comment on the plan:

1. Information session (Council chambers) - Friday, 17 May 2019 from 4pm-6pm

2. Information session and community barbecue (Lions Apex Central Park) - Sunday, 26 May 2019 from 11.30am-1.30pm

3. Public meeting (Council chambers) -Friday, 31 May 2019 from 10am-12pm
