The Kimba Art Prize and Exhibition returns in October 2019 with nearly double the prizemoney, offering a pool of $4,500 making it well worth an entry or three from the artists among us.

The gala opening on 11 October, from 6pm in the Kimba Soldiers Memorial Institute, will be an evening of excitement with all five winners announced, and experienced South Australian art judge Kirsty Jamieson on hand to talk about some of the featured art.  The opening will kick off the three-week exhibition which will wrap up on 31 October.

The last Kimba Art Prize attracted about 1,000 people through the Institute doors over 12 days to view the gallery, which featured about 200 works of art. This year, the exhibition has been extended to three weeks to accommodate the widespread interest the event generates, and to allow the patrons to fully appreciate the fabulous talent on show.

An additional highlight this year will be the artist-in-residence component, with Eyre Peninsula artist Karen Carr running nine community workshops over the three-week exhibition to create Kimba’s latest public artwork: a mosaic of local iconic native species.

Entries close on 6 September and the overall Kimba Art Prize winner will take away $2,000.  There is $1,000 a piece for the best of the Fine Art and of Photography categories.  Add in $300 for the Local Artist Prize for the best entered from Kimba’s 5641 postcode area, and $200 for the ever-popular People’s Choice category, and is represents a substantial cash pool.
